CyberPeace Lab: Disruptive Technologies and Cyberpeace
As disruptive technologies permeate individuals’ and communities’ professional and private lives, it is crucial to assess their impact from a human-centric perspective. To reduce the risks associated with the development and (mis)use of disruptive technologies while amplifying the benefits, it is vital to assess the impact of disruptive technologies on cyberpeace and vulnerable communities worldwide. At the CyberPeace Institute, we work to ensure that such an impact does not hamper the creation of a cyberspace at peace, for everyone, everywhere. In other words, the core mission of the CyberPeace Institute is the achievement of cyberpeace where human security, dignity and equity are respected. Human security exists when services essential to human life and related to critical infrastructure are protected. Human dignity is represented by the protection of individuals’ beliefs, cultural rights, and the ability to participate in society. Finally, human equity exists as the safeguard of individuals against discrimination, bias, prejudice, and inequality.
With this CyberPeace Lab, the CyberPeace Institute plans to gather insights on the current and potential impact of emerging and disruptive technologies on cyberpeace. Such impacts have not been fully explored nor analysed especially with a human-centric approach and with regard to vulnerable populations. Panelists will be asked to contribute with input and examples highlighting upcoming trends, challenges and opportunities of disruptive technologies and their impact on cyberpeace, articulated around human security, dignity, and equity.
