CyberPeace Lab – COVID-19 Infodemic: Cyber Volunteers and Healthcare – State of Play

13 May 2020

The exponential growth of COVID-19 related cyberattacks is posing a considerable threat to civil society, institutions and industries across all sectors, particularly in the healthcare sector and its larger supply chain. In this time of emergency, cyberattacks may not only have an economic and reputational cost, they may have an impact on human life.

This CyberPeace Lab focuses on the cybersecurity assistance provided to the frontline helpers in hospitals and patient care organizations, all the way to actors of the wider healthcare supply chain.

Existing entities, from government cybersecurity agencies to international organizations, are doing what they can to preserve the healthcare industry as it responds to the pandemic. Additionally, COVID-19 specific cyber volunteer initiatives have emerged to provide extra support to healthcare organizations. This is a welcome development, evidencing the solidarity of the cybersecurity industry.

How do these existing and new mechanisms interface, how can they best meet the needs of the healthcare industry, and what are the long-term implications?
